Training Description
State Agency Participants will:
- Learn how to properly oversee the prospective employee’s completion of Form I-9
- Understand the employer’s responsibility for verifying the prospective employer’s identity and work authorization
- Understand when Form I-9 must be re-verified
- Learn how to appropriately create and maintain the HR-Payroll I-9 Infotypes
- Understand the tax implications associated with certain nonresident aliens
- Ask questions regarding Form I-9 and E-Verify
Training Outline
- Introduction – Michael Euliss – Office of the State Controller and Nancy Astrike – Office of State Human Resources
- USCIS Training on I-9/E-Verify – 1.5 hours – Separate link will be sent for this presentation from USCIS
- BREAK (15 minutes)
- FAQ discussion with OSHR/OSC – Panel discussion – answer the groups questions – 45 minutes
- HR-Payroll Update on IT0094/IT0048 – how to maintain these fields and how OSC can assist with the maintenance of the I-9 fields and monitoring of task reports – Theresa Jeffries – 30 minutes
- Tax Compliance Assessment Process - why we need updates to IT0094/IT0048. This will be geared toward our foreign national employee reporting – Jennifer Pacheco– 30 minutes

Prerequisite
Must be a Human Resources (HR) Specialist or Payroll Administrator employed by a state agency that interacts with the recruitment and selection process, federal requirements for employment compliance, or employee maintenance (action processing, reporting, etc.) within the Integrated HR-Payroll System. It is also open to any agency HR staff interested in learning more about Form I-9 requirements.
